MartyKenilworthGardens2021Marty Barrick, a Florida resident for about a year, is driven to capture the vegetation, light and energy of the area. She paints in the plein air tradition where the weather, sounds, scents—even the insects or roaming farm animal—can influence the final painting. She often returns to her studio to create larger pieces inspired by the originals, especially when an animal is the focal point.

Marty studied painting at the University of Maryland and Corcoran School of Art, and has taken plein air and studio workshops throughout the mid-Atlantic area with Hai-Ou Hou, Patrick Lee, Bethanne Kinsella Cople, Hiu Lai Chong, Valerie Craig and Walt Bartman.

She was an art director and graphic designer at The Washington Post for 27 years where she created and commissioned artwork for many sections of the newspaper. Being outdoors also inspires her counted cross stitch designs; please visit Carriage House Samplings
